Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 15, 2026

BroSocial is a social-accountability app for friend groups. Friends opt in together to be notified when a member crosses a screen-time limit they set, and can send a lighthearted reaction. This policy explains what information BroSocial collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It is written to be plain and honest — if anything here is unclear, contact us at support@brosocial.app.

The most important thing about your screen-time data: your raw screen-time — how many minutes you spend in any app, and what you look at — never leaves your device. Apple's Screen Time system keeps it in a private, on-device vault that BroSocial cannot read or transmit. The only screen-time information that ever reaches our servers is the fact that you crossed a limit your group set (for example, "passed 40 minutes on Instagram"), plus an approximate weekly total. We never receive a minute-by-minute feed.

Information we collect

WhatWhy
Phone numberTo create and secure your account. Sign-in is by phone number and a one-time SMS code. Your phone number is your identity on BroSocial; it is not shown to other members.
Your content — group chat messages, group names, display name, and any reaction or "punishment" text you writeTo provide the group experience. This content is visible to members of the groups you are in.
Threshold-crossing signals & approximate weekly totalsThe core feature: to notify your group when you cross a limit and to show an approximate weekly leaderboard. These are quantized and approximate by design (a sum of crossed limits), never your exact usage.
Push notification tokenTo deliver notifications from your group to your device via Apple Push Notification service.

We do not collect: your email address, your contacts or address book, your precise or coarse location, your browsing or search history, financial or payment details (in-app purchases are handled by Apple; we only receive a confirmation that a purchase is valid), or any health data. We do not use advertising identifiers.

Consent — nobody is monitored without opting in

Screen-time monitoring in BroSocial requires two separate, explicit agreements, and we never bundle them into one tap:

Joining a group never starts monitoring on its own — it places you in a consent flow first. You can revoke consent at any time in the app, in one action. Revocation is never blocked and stops data collection immediately. Because the whole point of BroSocial is group accountability, your group is told when you turn monitoring off — but you are never penalized within the app for doing so, and you can always leave a group.

How your information is used and shared

How long we keep it

DataRetention
Threshold-crossing signalsAbout 90 days.
Approximate weekly totals & leaderboard historyAbout 1 year.
Chat messagesKept until you or your group delete them; you can delete your own content.
Consent recordsWe keep an audit record of when consent was granted or revoked (so we can prove what was disclosed). On account deletion this record is anonymized — the personal identifier is removed, the consent event is kept.

Your choices and rights

Children

BroSocial is intended for people 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. BroSocial is peer-to-peer: each person authorizes monitoring on their own device — it is not a parental-monitoring or child-monitoring product. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Access to your data is restricted by database-level security rules so that only you and the groups you belong to can see what you have shared. Sensitive server credentials (such as push keys) are held only on our servers and never in the app. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to collect as little of it as possible.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to how we handle your information, we will update this page and, where appropriate, ask you to review an updated in-app disclosure before continuing to be monitored.
